Volunteering

Operating a comprehensive MS center requires time and effort. Many of our wonderful projects would not be possible without the help of interested and dedicated individuals who are willing to volunteer their talent and time. We welcome people who are willing to share their talents for the benefit of our patients.

Below is a list of ongoing tasks for which we are currently seeking help. In addition, we encourage individuals who have time at their disposal and who wish to volunteer in other capacities to contact us about their specific talents and offers.

  • Help with paraclinical measures of disease activity in MS patients.
Volunteers will be trained to instruct and measure (with a stopwatch) the performance of MS patients during standardized tests of hand mobility, walking, and memory functions. Time commitment: approximately 6 hours per week. Brief training in patient confidentiality laws is required.
  • Escort MS patients who are participating in research studies.
Some MS patients require escort aid from the garage or Medical Arts Building to the gait and stance evaluation laboratory of Dr. Amit Bhattacharya. Time commitment: maximum 4-5 hours per week. Brief training in patient confidentiality laws is required.
  • Input data into research database.
Volunteers will be instructed how to transfer data from paper forms into the research database. Time commitment: flexible. Brief training in patient confidentiality laws is required.
  • Assist our professional team with fundraising and publicity efforts.
    Time commitment: flexible.
